June Vining is the CEO/Executive Director of Trauma Intervention Program NW, Inc. “TIP” is a non-profit organization of specially trained citizen volunteers that respond to citizens in crisis. June has spent the last 29 years, mentoring the TIP volunteers as their leader, training new citizens each year how to provide “Emotional First Aid” and responding herself to people in need. She is nationally recognized for her management and training skills.
At any given day, at any given time, there is a person needing someone to be with them at the worst time in their life. To be with them to hold their hand, to help them through the darkest hours of losing someone they love or witnessing a horrible accident. TIP volunteers are these special angels called to help people in crisis.
June recruits, trains and supervises everyday citizens to provide “Emotional First Aid” to people in crisis after a traumatic experience. She mentors and trains hundreds of citizens each year. Her office is in the Portland Fire Bureau and she currently oversees 187 volunteers that are responding to over 160 requests each month for a TIP volunteer to go on-scene at the request of Police or Fire to provide immediate emotional and practical support to people who need help.
She is a Master Trainer with TIP National and holds many awards and recognition:
- 2018 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award
- 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award from her local high school in MN
- Recognized as 15 Fascinating Oregonians in Brainstorm NW Magazine
June spent 25 years as the EAP Coordinator for Portland Fire & Rescue. In that position she coordinated the Peer Support Team of 25 sworn firefighters who are certified/trained peer supporters. She created and developed the first “family survival” night at Portland Fire to assist and support the family members of those entering the training academy to become a firefighter. She is a “clearing house” of information and resources for firefighters and their families when needed support.
June is on the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving on the Executive Committee as Secretary. She also serves on the Pastoral Council at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.
June is married to Greg Vining for 40+ years. He is a Homicide Detective with MCSO. They have three children and 4 grandchildren.
